Please help the Lehigh Clean Sweep team accomplish these goals.
- To encourage a spirit of pride and ownership regarding the roadways and appearance of Lehigh Acres.
- To inform all citizens on how to responsibly care for their litter and solid waste through Lee County’s comprehensive programs for proper disposal.
- To achieve a clean and green community that promotes a pleasant atmosphere through voluntary action in the Adopt A Road and Adopt A Canal programs.
- To enlist young people in community service by providing opportunities to volunteer with us.
- To organize the Lehigh Clean Sweep into an effective organization that can carry out its mission under new management by younger rising leaders from the community and reach new goals in the future.
- Accomplishments: toward those goals:
- Much better attention to dumped piles on road right of ways by the Solid Waste trucks.
- Greater numbers of volunteers every month.
- Local organizations becoming involved with Adopted Roads.
- Volunteer’s photographs used to locate dumping for cleanup.
- Good recognition in the papers and on the Chamber web site.
- Local Sheriff Deputies, the Agricultural Units, and Aviation assets alerted to look out for dumping.
- Code Enforcement, building contractors, and building inspectors are engaged in watching for violations.
Dear neighbor, the county government could send out employees every week to clean our roads but the cost would be staggering and your taxes would go up considerably. Instead the Transportation Department sponsors a program to help neighbors and associations do a little work and take pride in their streets. You have probably seen the blue signs for Adopted Roads and the bags of trash waiting to be picked up.
This is done by your neighbors, taking pride in their community, and taking responsibility for a portion of a road in Lee County. The Lehigh Clean Sweep group believes that YOU WANT YOUR OWN ROAD TO LOOK NICE JUST AS EVERYONE WANTS TO BE PROUD OF THEIR COMMUNITY.
It only takes a few of hours on Saturday every other month to maintain your road by picking up litter. We want to help you organize a party of neighbors to use the tools that the Lee DOT provides if you would meet with a few people and form a crew to deal with your own road. Take a look at your own street or consider joining another crew to ADOPT A ROAD.
WE WILL PROVIDE SOFTDRINKS TSHIRT AND WATER
It can be an opportunity to meet neighbors and accomplish this together for the fun of it! To learn how, contact John Miller and the Lehigh Clean Sweep at 986-0421.
